I don't get it. Wasn't I clear that I appreciate the ensemble that gracefully utilizes elements of samba dance (amongst others)? I'm all for creativity and art! My criticism is twofold: the BAD CALL to put a mambo song and claim it was samba, and the unnecessary defensive attitude that both of you engaged in, calling people cocky, arrogant and intolerant. They told you it is not samba, and it isn't. But it isn't meant to be, right? So why are you so hurt?

i'm not. and if i were, i wouldn't be the only one. what i'm so defensive about is that everytime anything like this get posted a brazilian shows up and just says that it's not. and it has always been for years now. i dare you to stop it.

They are ignorant and cocky if they don't realize to stop inserting brazilian music as a must to dance in this form when it's pretty evident it is not. It's intolerancy to not appreciate other forms of art (you're obviously not one of them). If one replies "THIS IS NOT SAMBA ROFL!!!" then, I'm sorry, but it makes one look like a pompous idiot.

Don't agree. You never stopped to check what they meant by that. If they meant that the dance has nothing to do with samba, then they are ignorant. If they meant that the music has nothing to do with samba, then they were right. You never asked that before you assumed they were cocky and ignorant. I understand as dancer you would defensively take that as an attack to your art, but videos are audiovisual resources. audio + video.

Then it is their fault for phrasing themselves so. They could in their defense say they didn't mean the music isn't traditional Brazilian samba and in this case I would apologise if I lashed out. However, it is not my responsibility to figure out if someone meant something else than what he wrote. That just goes against common sense. If I say Europeans suck, then it means European suck until I change the sentence.

Sure. It's their fault for being short and insulting. And it's your fault for being defensive and insulting. But here... this song isn't SAMBA AT ALL. It's mambo. This is the kind of ignorance that piss Brazilians off. We're tired of hearing "it's all the same". And maybe that's why they were insulting. Now... the dance isn't traditional samba, but still has samba in it. Which in my opinion is one of the greatest things about it. Creative, new, pretty.

I'll take pride in that fault then, because none of them have come back to phrase themselves. "This is not samba" means they are referring to the dance or the concept in general until the they add the word "music" in the end. Even then, so what? As so many have pointed out the international latin doesn't have traditional samba music as a must. All we need is a phrased rhythm and correct tempo. It's complete ignorance to come shouting that this is not Brazilian samba music. Yeah, we _know_ that.

"The international latin" doesn't have samba music as a must. "International Samba" does. Otherwise, just call it "latin". It may be true that all you need is a phrased rhythm and correct tempo in order to dance. Now, in order to give a name to your dance, please be consistent. Music is an inherent part of the show. And this video messed up on this part. You don't need to accept that. And you don't need to apologize for insulting me because of what other people said.

Nope. It's a valid analogy and you know it. The culture has as much to owe to its inspiring roots, as it has to its newly found catalyzing environment. Just like the international samba adds to samba. This new form or art is not the same as the Brazilian one, and it can't be claimed by Brazil. You have knowledge and skills to argue, AceyBlade, but at this point, you lack humility to publicly accept the point that I'm pretty sure you get.
